I WENT TO A ZERO WASTE SUPERMARKET!
My little sister Phoebe challenged me to practice what I preach and #refuseplastic for two weeks… how hard can it be when I try not to buy plastic anyway? When you run out of pasta, rice and lentils you suddenly realise that plastic is everywhere and my usual shopping trolley is clearly riddled with plastic. Suddenly I NEED pasta!
We can take baby steps towards reducing the plastic we buy, and collectively make a global movement towards consuming less plastic. This could result in less plastic in the oceans, could bring back an attitude of reusing the packaging we’ve got instead of just recycling, and shift attitudes towards supporting a healthier and more fair planet!
I visited Sel Fair, a zero-waste supermarket in Bremen, and I was not disappointed. I found it on www.bepakt.com, and suggest that you try the same for your area! I took my own jars and boxes, weighed them, filled them, then weighed again. I bought only what I needed, and I didn’t bring away any extra ‘waste’ that would end up in the recycling bin again. Bulk stores are popular in America… let’s bring more of them to Europe!
#Practicewhatyoupreach… whether you hear yourself preaching a love for the environment, for animals or for your carbon footprint… I challenge you to REFUSE PLASTIC for the rest of the day, and show yourself that you can actively care for this planet!
Yep, you heard it right, THIRTY minutes for a dough… I found this beautiful recipe (click here) on allrecipes, and expected it to probably not be as good as usual pizza dough that takes hours in rising time. But it was almighty.
I then used an organic passata for the tomato base.
Then added crushed garlic, sliced tomato, sliced mushrooms, spring onion, olives and sliced courgette (why hold back?!).
And after 25 mins in the oven, I drizzled with olive oil and added spinach that wilted on top.
Exciting news for UK people, all these were only £2.50 in ASDA. Woop woop:
So it’d be rude not to make a smoothie! Strawberry, banana and spinach for me and topped with sunflower seeds 💚💪
I made cakes for my cousin’s baby’s christening! Woah that was a mouthful.
They were blueberry and lemon cupcakes, and they were so much fun to make and were NOM. I made a lemon buttercream for on top, and made soo much buttercream that I froze a whole box of it! Google told me that you can freeze it up to 3 months… so I’m going with that, and I will thaw it the day before I use it. yay. I even made candied orange peel using the lemon peel, you’d think I had loads of spare time (I don’t!).

Wow! Since owning a spiralizer (it’s only been a week but how did I live without it?!) I’ve made courgette noodles, apple spirals, carrot noodles, and today was the potatoes turn.
Wow. Sooooo good.
So crispy and homemade tasting. NOM. I spiralized the potato, added paprika, salt and oil, and baked for around 10 mins at 200C.
2 bananas, handful of strawberries and as much spinach that fits in the blender! Boom… Breakfast complete.
It’s raining and I have a cold. This sorted me out perfectly!
I toasted brown bread, ‘butter’ed it, and grilled with Violife dairy free cheese slices on. Then I added slices of gherkin and some BBQ sauce.
SO melty, and so satisfying!
